Nothing leaves your machine unless you turn on chat, rewriting or a connected program, and the one request Writ makes on its own, the update check, can be turned off (privacy).

Before you install

macOS	Signed and notarized by Apple, so there is no warning to click through.
Windows	The .msi is not code-signed yet, so SmartScreen shows a warning on first run: More info, then Run anyway. The checksum below is how to verify it instead.
Linux	The AppImage runs anywhere with FUSE; the .deb targets Debian and Ubuntu. Arch has `writ-bin` on the AUR.

Verify a download

Every release ships a SHA256SUMS.txt. On macOS or Linux:

shasum -a 256 Writ_0.4.0_universal.pkg

Compare the output with the line for that file. The current sums:

First open on macOS

Open the .pkg and follow the installer.
Launch Writ once from Applications. It keeps running after you switch away.
Press ⌘⇧Space from any app to bring it up, and again to put it away.

Updates

Writ checks GitHub Releases on start and offers the new version; nothing installs without a click. The check verifies a signed manifest and can be turned off in Settings. Package-manager installs update through the package manager instead.

Uninstall

Delete the app. Your notes stay in the notes folder, and Writ's own data stays in ~/.writ until you delete that folder too.
